The most common question we get, before “what do you take,” is “what’s it going to cost.” Fair. Pricing in this business has a reputation for being murky, so here is the plain version of how it works and what actually moves the number.
You pay for the space, not the guess
Almost all junk removal is priced by volume: how much room your stuff takes up in the truck. A few items take up a little space and cost a little. A full basement takes up a lot and costs more. That is the whole idea. It is simple, it is fair, and it means a couple of bags and a busted dresser never get charged like a whole-house cleanout.
The important part is that you should get that number before we start. A photo or two is usually enough for us to tell you the price up front. If a crew won’t quote you until the truck is loaded, that is a red flag.
What makes the price go up
Three honest things, and we tell you about all of them when we quote:
- How much space it takes. The main driver. More stuff, bigger number.
- A few special-disposal items. Things like refrigerators, AC units, and certain electronics or tires carry a disposal fee at the facility. If any apply, we say so.
- Heavy debris. Dense loads like dirt, brick, or concrete are limited by what the truck can legally carry, so they get priced differently. We flag it.
What does not cost extra
This is where a lot of crews quietly pad the bill, and where we don’t:
- No fee for stairs, walk-ups, or carrying. A fourth-floor couch is the same price as a curbside one.
- No charge for the dump run. That is included.
- No cleanup surcharge. We sweep the space before we leave, every time.
